I’m ordering some bantams tomorrow, as I’m starting my first bantam flock. I’m looking to order 8-10 chicks as a start, and I’ll more than likely be ordering from ideal. I have zero experience with bantams except I know a little bit about silkies. I would really like recommendations on breeds. I live in Texas, so it can get 90-100 degrees on hot days so I need some breeds that are pretty heat hardy. The only breed I know I’m for sure getting is some silkies. Thanks for any suggestions and responses,

You really should study up on the breeds your interested in or at least get a sense of how they will handle your area.

I’ve been looking at Millie fleur d’uccles and sebrights. Maybe blue laced red Wyandotte bantams too. Old English are on my list too. Should I not get a black silkie? I’m getting a white, blue and maybe buff, but kind of want a fourth color too. I’ll update this thread as soon as I decide. I will order tomorrow for June 30th, I think. Thanks for the quick responses

D'uccles in my experience weren't fans of the heat. Wyandottes are a heavier, Poirier bird too judging by the pictures, so they probably would be in the same boat

The only bantams I have are Cochin Bantams (lovely breed by the way) but they would not do well in your climate. Have you ever raised silkies? I tried, and failed. Then got 6 Cochin bantams, expecting some would die, and all 6 lived.
