Silkies- fluffy birds that live on the ground and can live in little dog houses or coops....easy to keep in cutesy little houses - look like walking poofball ostrich feathers. Not for people who need eye contact to communicate or get friendly with their pets (you cant see their eyes too often).....Personality is calm and they go broody alot, you cant ask for a better momma chicken. Many people have them just for surrogate parents for that reason! Colors include Buff, Black, Splash, Blue, White.
Old English Bantams are small, and great little flyers. The will roost on whatever, and are pretty hardy. OE will chatter away....if you get them young and handle them, they will bond to you closely. They make eye contact and tip their head like they know what you are saying! Fast learners and great pets. A little more skittish and energetic than the silkie, depends on how much time you spend with them. Varieties can include many patterns such as Silver Duckwing, Quail, BBR, Self Blue, Blue, and so on....
Cochins are a nice feather footed fluffy bird that may chose to stay in a shelter on the ground or chose a roost, it depends on the bird! Feathery fluff balls, and can be calm and quiet. Not a talkative bird but calmly interested in whats going on around them - especially food. Bantam Cochins come in beautiful color choices, many being perfected, some of my favs are the mottled black and white cochin, or the mille fleur cochin....
Many many of the Standard birds have a Bantam counterpart....you just have to check the breed.....
Like Moodychicken said - the Moderns are alot of work - but we have six from her and they are AWESOME - and are living in my livingroom right now. Hmmmm.
