bantan chick with raised leg

Hello I have a three day old bantam chick that will post on one leg and raised the other it seems to have improved a little in first few days but does not seem to be self correcting. It is not being picked on by the others and seems to be able to eat and drink no prob. I tried to take some pics let me see if I could figure out how to load them? I am a chicken newbe this kid is feather footed so I am guessing any kind of splint I should trim feathers?

Hey I still don’t know how to help the chick or if I can? I looks almost like it giving a high five with it’s leg raised. I seems to eat and drink but also crying more than the other chicks I don’t know if it is in pain? I don’t know if I should splint its legs together ? I and the chick need help?

OK, high five gives me a mental image. Hi have delt with several of those unsuccessfully. I think its in the hock joint. If its what I think it is, injury or something has made the lower leg rotate out and up, probably a slipped tendon or something as I could never find anything broken. They will not heal by themselves, and only get worse. If you don't want to put it down now, I would definately splint it down into position if you can get it there. I'm afraid spinting to the other leg would only pull the other leg out from under the little guy. I think it would need to be splinted to something above and below the joint to hold it in a moderate position, as it will likely "freeze" in that position.

Hey thank you for the advise, I am a vet-tech and will take the chick to work tomorrow and see what my docs think. I know the practical thing is to humanely put the chick down and that my indeed be what happens but who knows. Is there a name for that condition or some kind of page with information for me and my Docs to look at? Don’t mean to overwhelm you with questions

No page reference, sorry, I haven't ever seen a write up, just from experience. If a tendon on the back inside of the joint, whether from a tear, slip or whatever, were displaced so as not to be effective, then the opposing muscles would pull the leg up and out. Just my theory, never done a necropsy on it.
