We went to our local CO-OP today and I went straight to the Assorted Bantams group. I wanted a Silkie. I picked out 3 with beautiful coloring and showed them to my mother. Of course, since I have nione chicks, my mom refused to get me another. Granted, I guess that's fair. That's when I noticed that one of the chicks was acting funny. She had one eye closed and the other open. Never once did the one eye open. Thinking the chick needed special care that she wouldn't get there, I begged until finally I took her home. She's opened/closed the one eye several times. Sometimes it's closed a whi9le, sometimes it's open. I'm wondering if there's something wrong with my baby?
Also, I mentioned I wanted a Silkie. I'm really not sure what breed she is, and the cashiers at the feed store were totally clueless. I'll post pictures in a few minutes for the diagnosis if needed, and a guess on what breed she might be.

It's possible she could have scratched her eye or got something in it. You could try washing it out with saline solution and maybe put antibiotic ointment in it if it seems infected.

Okay. I'll see what my mom thinks about that. (I don;t want to do something that would get me grounded the day before I graduate.

Well it certainly looks like my little black-tailed white Japanese banty chicks, one of which is pretty yellow. Obviously it's some sort of white banty.

I'm pretty sure she's a Silkie, a Seabright, or an Old English. The sign said that they were getting in those breeds in the Bantam section today. THe problem is, I don't know anything about any of those breeds.

Yeah, actually...I'm not sure any of the chicks I saw at the CO-OP were silkies. I have no clue what mine is. I'll work on taking better pics. with my new camera.

No. It looks like their eyes do when they're sleeping, you know? It doesn't seem like there's much wrong with it, other than the fact that she hardly ever opens it.

just a future reference, if you want silkies look for black skin, 5 toes and feathered legs.
can you describe the comb?
