I have four hens, they are about a year old. In the last few days I've noticed two of them are missing their belly fluff. Everything else seems fine, we are still getting 2-3 eggs/day from the group, they have been roosting on their bar, laying eggs usually in their nesting boxes. Do you think they are molting?

Have they gone broody? Some hens will pluck their belly feathers for a skin-to-egg contact when they want to hatch. The fact that the plucking is pretty clean and not bloody makes me think this as opposed to a pecking order. I doubt they'd be molting now, especially if they molted in the fall..

That is caused from picking......that's not the belly......;).......

Picking causes are
Too hot
Too crowded
Short of fresh air
Lack of protein in the feed...Or the coop is to brightly lit.....

Best of luck....

Cheers!
