I'm a total newbie at this and obviously my chick selection skills stink!! Picked up six chicks from Buchheits (feed store) Friday and one of the Barred Rocks has a bare butt. Tried to upload a pic. Not red. Last night I noticed a dried pea-sized piece of poop stuck on so soaked it and gently removed and applied some neosporin hoping to keep any more from accumulating. They are about 2.5 weeks old. She doesn't seem to be picking at it and otherwise is the most active, curious one of the bunch. Could she have had pasty butt and someone at the store pulled down off trying to get it off? Her belly has down, just not around vent. Thanks for any suggestions!!

Yep. Cann confirm. . . .that's a bare butted chicken. Glad I could help.

Pasty but can be curbed with medicated chick feed. Keep an eye out, but it isn't too big of a deal. As far as your chick, replace the sandpaper with proper toilet paper and she will be just fine.

Medicated feed is for cocidiosis.

If it's acting fine and no one is pecking at it it should be fine. It shouldn't still have pasty butt at that age, but keep checking and remove any chunks. Stress, and too hot or cold can be causes for it. It's possible someone pulled them off, or even other chicks did. I wouldn't put Neosporin on it, if it's shiny the others may peck at it.
