Oh ya my mistake, I guess it is 4 x 12! My husband does the building & I'm the primary care provider. Hahaha!
So they may be picking at each other at night while roosting? Interesting! We can definitely add another roost in there. Not sure about expanding the run though.
I'll try introducing more protein & hanging leafy greens.

So relieved its not mites or lice!
LOL They could be picking at night, that's when I notice it most. Adding another roosting bar may help, but....they do love to cram on top of each other too, you can try it.
 
I used to have this problem with some of my chickens and I think it can be several factors. One of them might be an external bug like mites. For that I like to use diatomaceous earth it's overall really good in defeating those kinds of things. Another thing it could be is molting. Molting can go on for a while and it causes a great amount of feather loss. You could try getting some protein packed feather growing feed.
