I don’t remember if I had posted about this a few weeks ago or not. But both my hens bellies are even worse now than this pic from a few weeks ago. They had lice , but I’ve done 5 treatments for it in the past couple of months and I bought them a brand new house, and the treatments were permethrin. The first 3 times was dust because it was still cold out then the last two treatments used liquid permethrin, so like 10 days ago I soaked them in a bucket of the mixture, and yesterday I sprayed them with it again and their new house so I would assume there’s no more lice on them but their bellies are so red and skin, flaky and little feathers bits like left over from the rest of the feather being eaten or pulled off, so I’ve been putting Neosporin on their bellies. Is there anything else I can do to help their bellies heal ? They are chocolate Orpington‘s one year old they eat nutrena all flock pellets,, and oyster shell. They share a fenced in yard with ducks, but have their own coop brand new to sleep at night, and to lay their eggs.

It might be depluming mites, which burrow into the feather shafts and under the skin so can't be treated effectively permethrin dusts/sprays. I'd probably try treating them with topical ivermectin and see if that helps. I also don't think I'd use neosporin on their bellies; I think something like coconut oil might be better to soothe dry, irritated skin. Also note that chicken skin exposed to sunlight becomes very red normally and isn't always a sign of something wrong, so the redness doesn't concern me much, but the crusty flakes do suggest a problem.
