This Chick is now 10 days old. I noticed the bare spots for the first time yesterday. The bare spots are not red or bloody, just bare skin. They are in the same place on each wing. It seems healthy otherwise, eating and drinking well and playing on the perch.I watched it for a while and only one other chick pecked it, but only once. They were 3 days old when I added them to the brooder with 3 week old chicks. There was no problem after watching them for a full hour. I read something very similar in an older post but I am new to chickens so I just need to know what to do. Thanks for looking.

I've got some chicks that were hatched on the 9th, some of them have the same bare spot thing on the wing. As they are growing the new feathers aren't in yet and the down sheds or doesn't cover anymore. The chick looks wet in the pictures? I usually don't do anything about the bare spots as long as they aren't being picked at or irritated, if the other chicks seem to pick at it I would spray the spots with Blue-Kote or something similar.

Thank you. I blotted it with a damp paper towel to get a better look. As a precaution I moved it to its own box. later I had 2 more do the same thing, so I moved them too. This morning I realized that 3 of the six of them had the bare spots in the same locations. But others were pecking the area so I will just keep them apart until the feathers grow back. Someone said some breeds have "Buttons" But they didn't say if Speckled Sussex was one of them. Again, Thank you for the advice, I will follow it!
