barefoot in the coop

I do it all the time. I hose my feet off before going inside, and I don't do it if I've cut myself on something. With my family shoes were always something you put on if you were going in public, and sometimes even that much wasn't necessary. I'm sure it's not the best idea in the world, but I haven't died from it yet.

ETA: Yeah, you better be prepared for some worm hunting, especially when you wear eye catching colors on your toe nails. Ouch!

Besides, I'm sure there's someone on here with more knowledge than me regarding every little thing that could possibly harm me in a chicken coop. I'm open to learn, but it will be the toughest habit in the world to break if someone actually manages to change my mind.

Keep in mind that I don't have many chickens, though, and I clean the coops regularly. There certainly are coops I won't walk in without foot armor.

I keep a cheap pair of canvas slip ons (keds knock offs) for when I'm running to the pens, if they get mucky, toss in washer/dryer and carry on.

I have a pair of rubber boots by the back door. It does not matter if the grass is wet or dry and nothing gets on my shoes from the house.
