I wear a pair of flip flops I have on the back patio.

The thought of chicken poo toe jam is just too much for me! IIIKKK!!!

I guess I need to be wormed

I've been working on my chicken pen all week in the mud & ....everything else. I got tired of running around in wet shoes so I just took them off. It was easier to hose off my feet instead. I fit in the hillbilly category.

I keep crocs at the back door. The chickens peck my feet through the holes....

As a child I also did the shoes for town only, in warm weather. Soles are too tender now, so it's clogs/crocs outdoors. Never wear shoes in the house, even others' houses. Have been asked by a fellow guest if the owner wanted shoes off in his house -- no I just don't ever wear shoes indoors.... Guess that makes me a hillbilly too!

Love those crocs. Hate all other shoes.

I am from New York City as a kid. And I NEVER went barefoot. Glass, grease, gum, grime, and needles. But, I don't think you can't hurt your flock. Despite most peoples best efforts, stuff happens, and gets around. And I would expect a healthy line of chickens be able to deal with anything that comes their way. If you vaccinate for the diseases that kills you should be fine.

My chickens are always after the toe worms and pretty colored toenails too. That can hurt. At night when I am doing the head count at bedtime I will wear my flipflops but once or twice they have come off the roost after my toes.

Oops, another hillbillyhere.

As soon as the snow melts I start toughening up my feet for summer, and shoes don't go on willingly around my property until pretty darn cold. Although, if I am trimming the horses I put shoes on. Well, or if I am going to be hip deep in mud- I have tall mud boots. But, I clean the chickens shavings every day (I only have 7, so no big deal) and I have no problem running out to do anything in bare feet. (I have even mucked stalls in bare feet when it is unbearably hot)
