My poor Australorp hen is apparently too sexy for her own good:

She's also getting bare patches on each side of her back, so I assume this is from getting mounted too much. Seems odd, because ther are 24 hens for the 2 roosters, but maybe this one bird is the hottie? I don't notice her getting mounted any more often than the other girls.

Anyway, my question is what to do about it. I could make a saddle for the back damage, but what about the head? Or is that from some other cause? It seems a little strange that she would be the only one to show any damage from the roosters. All the others are fine. She seems otherwise quite healthy, active, and isn't at the bottom fo the pecking order.

Do I have to separate her from the flock for a while? That would be hard on her as well as us...

I would love to know about this too, I have severall hotties in my flock also and plenty of hens to roos. I have saddles on the most popular girls, some with the wing protectors even, but I feel so sorry about their cute little heads.............

Chicken saddles are the order of the day to protect their sides and back. You can purchase Rooster Booster brand "Black Salve" and put in on the back of her head. Not only does it have healing properties, but once your rooster gets a taste of that stuff...he wont be going back for seconds anytime soon.

She very well could be the roo's favorite lady.....Poor dear! Glad she's the only one. (I will get rid of a rooster if he's too mean with the ladies......) I would do that if there were more than one bald hen for sure!
