Today is Day 20 for my little babies. Struggled with the humidity all day yesterday--it was hanging in the upper 70's. No pips yet. I haven't heard anything this morning but thought i heard peeping last night, but it couldn't have been the other chicks in their brooder in the same room, hard to tell.
Just before bed, DH looked in the bator and said 'you know, there IS still water in this tray.' um, no, there shouldn't be but I get up go over and look--sure enough there was water in there. I have no clue how since I had dumped it earlier and not put any more in but whatever, it was there. I wanted to just leave it be since I am just too worried to do anything with them. I figured it would come down overnight anyway.
Well, DH decides that he HAS to drain this water out. I didn't think this was a fantastic idea but with him being a scientist, I tend to defer to him on certain things. He raised the lid just enough for me to get my hands in to hold the egg carton. I grabbed the carton and the top of the bator, he slid out the bottom, quickly dumped it and we put everything back. took maybe all of 30 seconds to do it. He just dumped it right out the front door (about 10 steps and around the corner from where the bator is). I watched for a bit and it was still hanging in the mid 60's so I think we did ok with the dump...i watched the entire time and it did not dip below 64%.
I woke up this morning and the humidity was at 34%
I quickly added water and it's now at 58% but OMG, i sure hope I didn't just destroy my hatch!
It was only a max of 6 hours between bed and morning for me so it couldn't have been that low for all that long but I just don't know what, if any, damage was done. I was kinda
at DH this morning about pouring out that water and now the humidity is all wacked up, etc. He said that even if it was down for the entire 6 hours that shouldn't affect anything, esp since none at pipped yet.
What do you guys think? Anxiously awaiting that first pip! Secretly hoping a post on here will do the trick! lol
