I have 4 Buff Orpingtons that are just starting to lay...but the eggs are very very small. Are they going to get bigger as the hens get older. I had some BOs before and don't remember their eggs being small. Help!!!

Welcome to BYC!

When chickens first start laying it's not unusual for them to have small eggs, or soft shell eggs or eggs with no shell at all. Once all the "parts" are mature and working smoothly, the eggs will be a bit bigger.

Just make sure they are on a good layer feed with crushed oyster shell to the side and plenty of fresh water. They should be fine.

Thanks for joining us!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! X2, as your girls keep laying the eggs should gradually keep getting larger.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. As the other members have indicated, over the next few weeks your BO eggs will get much larger.) If you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your BOs.
