Barn Cats?

My lazy/playful mousers do this but my half feral cat that was born in my house kills them and swallows them whole after a couple chews. She's a savage and by far my best mouser😄
CC I'd offer you this cat since she's an outcast among my cats but you are like ten hours away from me😂
You'd probably like a friendly cat better anyways, she's only cuddly on her own terms.

I'm sure she is super sweet! ( I'm sure she loves you too!)

I'm in West Tx. 🙃

We have six cats (one was dropped off at the top of our property) and they kill lots of rodents. Our orange female is by the far the best hunter, but our big male is the most brutal. He brought home a rabbit his own size...he was about 10lbs at the time! You can't really "train" a cat to stay in your yard. Females tend to stay closer then males. Males tend to be territorial and have a perimeter they circle. All of ours are fixed except the youngest she is LORD willing going in February to get fixed. I suppose you could get an electric perimeter fence and have a collar to go with it like a little dog, but I would be afraid of a cat really getting caught up with something like that on. If you provide food they will probably stay!

One more question, How would I ask for a barn cat? Do you have to go and see what you want or how does that work?

She really is sweet and she does love me she just doesn't want me to pet her whenever I want to, she just wants to wake me up at four in the morning by punching me in the mouth with her forehead and begging for pets😂

I'm alllllll the way over in east Texas😂

You can honestly just look for free kittens or look for someone specifically rehoming a barn cat. I just recently rehomed a barn cat who was beating up my other cats, people do it all the time.

Do you have a Humane Society there? If so, just call them up and ask if they have any. We just went there as we were looking for a cat, any cat, and after seeing their ones for adoption, they showed us four barn cats and one was Stella. She was about 6 months old and didn't grow up on a farm. She had scratched a child who was considering adopting her, so they couldn't adopt out a cat who scratches and she became a "barn cat."

Best cat ever and such a good mouser.

She was let outside after a couple of weeks, and a camera picked up her following a skunk past one of our growout pens. She was still considered a kitten!

Just fed the little monster

She begrudgingly let me pet her this time but she wouldn't hold still for a picture😂

She's adorable! And bold for chasing a skunk!

Can cats really be trained? I'm going with no. They might do what you want them to but that's because it just happens to be what they want to do.
Best hands down mousers ive had were Bengals but they aren't usually cheap. I've always always heard females are better hunters then males. Idk how much truth there is to that but it is the case with our many work barn cats.
love my Bengals too, but too expensive for accidental predator food to leave them outside...
