Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

What lines are you working with to get those fantastic eggs??? They're pretty!

The hen that lays the big dark egg is 3/4 Johan and 1/4 Peace of Thyme.

I use all Johan roosters, and all but one of my hens (who is a Kelly Cratty) are at least 1/2 Johan. I mated my dark laying hen back to a Johan roo and am going to keep one of the 3 cockerels I have from her which will be 7/8 Johan and 1/8 Peace of Thyme. The main focus of my flock has been to preserve the Johan line and keep it as pure as possible. I feel it needs a little bit of new genetic material but I'm taking it slow and careful, so I'm really excited to finally have a rooster to that is nearly all Johan to help me with this. I will, however, continue to breed 100% Johans as well.

Barnevelders are the next educational breed on the Chicken State University - show up, contribute and learn!!!

Thank you for that. CSU is not a chat thread, not "pretty photo" thread. It really, really works well when people approach the thread with their thinking caps on and maintain a professional mindset. It can be an astounding two-three week class. We've seen folks literally show up from around the world to teach about a breed they are passionate about.

You do NOT have to be an expert, as you can certainly learn from those who are. But, talking about difficulties and challenges are perhaps as important as talking about successes. That how it works over there. Welcome all those who care about SOP Barnevelders.

Fred, will non-standard colors of Barnevelders be up for discussion, or just the standard colors?
