Miss Lacey, a sexed Barnevelder day-old chick we bought in Sept 2017 has turned out to be a Mr. Lacey. Unfortunately we cannot have a rooster in our neighborhood (one of these days we are moving to where we CAN have roosters... but that is a few years away). He has been raised as a pet in a very small flock and is used to being hand-carried at least twice a day--whether he likes it or not. He doesn't really like it but doesn't fight us. He is just beginning to be aggressive towards the girls and so far he only crows in the morning. I have not heard him crow at any other time of the day (which is really great).

Is there anyone that wants this handsome, young fellow?

By the way, I took this picture last week and he's already bigger and even prettier!

Actually, roosters are allowed here. It's just that my awful next door neighbor (just the one--but he's the one everyone on the block cannot stand for multiple reasons) repeatedly complained about my last rooster, a jauntly little Polish named Lightening, to the city and the city repeatedly cited me for noise violations. The city ultimately gave me one week to rehome him; fortunately, a friend that lives about an hour away offered to take him in and he's a very happy yard demon with her hens... unfortunately, she is not accepting any other roosters.

My plan is to move in a few years so I can keep more than five chooks at a time in addition to keeping sweet roos--and I know that not all roosters are this nice--but in the meantime, I do not want Animal Control citing me for rooster crowing.

What is funny is that the neighbors in front and behind my house have told me that they had missed the crowing! Apparently it made them nostalgic.

You need to know that some people could have medical situation that make them hear some sound frequencies much louder then "normal" pepole. I am suffering frome hyperacusis and rooster crowing could drive me crazy! Literally! So I have only hens no roosters for me.

Yes, I can see how that would be! And if I were your neighbor, i would gladly limit my flock to hens to enhance our friendship! I will be horrified to learn that I contributed to someone's worsening condition!

Please be assured that there is no known medical basis for my obnoxious neighbor's complaints. When my friends and I compare "bad-neighbor" stories, I always win second place with this neighbor (believe me, there is a lot more to tell). Of course, first place goes to the friend whose neighbor had a meth lab in their garage and she found out when the city SWAT team swarmed her cul-de-sac. Talk about scary!

I like his looks, but can't think of anywhere I would want to eat in San Antonio. I did live there a few years and loved the Burger Joint outside of the airbase in Universal City but my wife has gone veganish since then. Have you tried craigslist yet you might find takers then just charge a rehoming fee of $5-10 so he isn't worth the money to process and eat, free if you don't ask questions.
