My approximately 12 week old Barnevelder pullet has been making low honking type sounds. Could it be her voice changing? I posted on the breeds page and Old Hen Likes Dogs suggested I post here, in case it is an illness and I need to treat.
She suggested that I listen to my pullet closely for wheezing or rattling, and I did not hear any of that. I heard her making a throaty sound, kind of hoarse sounding.
Because my three young ones (2 pullets, one cockerel) haven't been accepted by the three older hens, I have been keeping the young ones inside at night in their brooder box (it's pretty big), but I was worried that the AC is too cool for them. We are having very hot days in Texas, mid-90's, with 100 predicted for Saturday.
So tonight, I fixed a crate for the three young ones and put them in the hen house with the older girls.
Does anyone have any ideas, suggestions, thoughts? Do you think it could just be her voice changing, or a respiratory problem? If respiratory, should I take her to the vet, or treat with VetRx?
I was hoping that by 12 weeks, they would all be fully integrated. They are actually bigger than all of the older ones but scared of them. Will they really become one flock eventually?
After reading some of the titles of the threads in this section, I am feeling for all of you who are dealing with such serious problems. Sending love and healing thoughts to you and your chickens, and hoping your problems are solved very soon!
