Barnevelder voice?

You're so welcome. :) I didn't want you to worry if there was nothing wrong with her health-wise. Enjoy your girl...and maybe giggle over her unique way of expressing opinions. ;)

Yes, she is unique in many ways. She is independent to a point, when she loses track of her flock-mates, she starts honking LOL and looking frantically for them Thanks again. :)

Sounds like she's the definition of an independent woman (or so she thinks! :p)! Silly girl. :love You're more than welcome. :)

Hi all,

I hope you and your chickens are staying cool this summer! The temps are already in the upper 90's in Lewisville, Texas, where I live!

Does anyone have with experience with Barnevelders? My 12 week-old Barni's voice recently changed and sounds soft and deep, almost like a goose. Is that normal for this breed or could she have a respiratory infection? She seems OK. She is and always has been a little aloof from the other two who are her age (one pullet and one rooster). She's very passive compared to my Heritage Rhode Island Red cockerel and Silver Laced Wyandotte pullet. She is very sweet also absolutely gorgeous, her feathers are so shiny and colorful.

Chickens are such a trip!

Thanks for any comments or suggestions!
My 11 week Barnevelder is really quiet, never really makes any sounds, but very wary of everything!

Update on Barnie, my Barnevelder. She is now about 3 1/2 months old, and is the most beautiful chicken I have ever seen. The gorgeous browns, blacks that glimmer green and blue in the light. She is still very independent and with a very deep voice, which she uses a lot! I feel blessed to have her as part of the flock. Thanks everyone for getting me through the early stages of her honking.

Here she is. This photo doesn't really capture the richness of the colors of her feathers. She likes to sit by the fountain. :) Barnie.jpg

My Barnevelder also has a honking voice when she uses it. She is super wary of everything, but this week she just started coming up to me and eating out of my hand. She loves corn and jumps up in the air to grab it out of my hand!
