I will collect eggs on Sat. and Sunday to ship out on Monday. I am setting all eggs up until then. This is a Johan roo over hens from different bloodlines. Chicks last year out of these hens were very nice but this year we are going with the Johan roo to try for darker eggs and maybe better conformation.

I am not the best photographer and will try for better photos later but wanted to include a photo of the roo and hens for your viewing pleasure.
Please visit my website for more photos.

And a photo of a chick hatched out last year from the Kelly Cratty roo and these hens.

Thanks, James. I wish I knew the bloodlines but she is one that came from someone that wanted Barnies but then got out of chickens. I have really liked the chicks she puts out and she lays a darker egg than the KC girls. I have only one other girl that lays darker than her but still they are not the color I want in Barnie eggs. Can't wait to raise this year's chicks and see what they give me with this Johan roo being the dad.

I agree with James, your hen has beautiful markings. I have one roo and 4 hens hatched from an order of eggs from Peace of Thyme. The lacing is great, but the color is somewhat terracotta. However I love them, they're the sweetest in the coop. I would like to work on adding a new line.....

Would you mind posting photos of the various colors your getting from the hens?

Thanks so much
Kandi

Pretty hen!

For folks who might look at "barnevelder" auctions, *that* is what a barnevelder hen should look like.

Do you mean egg color?
I can take a few photos and put them on here but I am a bad photographer. There are several photos on my website of eggs, too.

Thank, Ione! She is one of my reasons for not giving up on the breed. She is a nice girl with lots of personality.

The four Barnie eggs on top I just collected from the pen and the egg on bottom is one of my Marans eggs. I put in the egg flap for color.

That hen is exceptional! What nice lacing! You have babies from her last year? I would be VERY interested in see how she produces with the Johan roo. I am using a Johan roo this year also and if you get good lacing from her babies I would be VERY interested in eggs from her.

I have one of her daughters from last year. She, too is exceptional like her mother. I have not put her in breeding yet as she hasn't laid for me but as soon as I see what egg color she has then I will know which way I want to go with her.
I am setting eggs from this hen and the Johan roo. I am hoping for even better conformation from this pair but will know later this summer as the chicks mature. You just never know when a pair will or will not click.
I am sure I will offer eggs again and Johan is the only roo I am using this year. I would love to take out my light egg layers but I only have a few good hens and will have to work with what I have. It is hard to have everything i need in just one bird but in about 10 or 20 years I may have it down.
