Do you have pics of yours now? These were my Barnevelders at a similar age. They did indeed grow up into Barnevelder hens, just hatchery quality. View attachment 4112368

I only have one now, the other I rehomed when she was 8-9 months old. Not the best picture, she doesn't like people much and is not photogenic.Do you have pics of yours now?
Yes the pattern is hard to see at a young age.Interesting. Someone above said these two don’t look like barnevelders. Do they look like barnevelders to you?
This really doesn't look like a barnevelder to me either, not even a hatchery quality one. More like a Wyandotte cross maybe. I had a SLW cross that looked very similar to this.I only have one now, the other I rehomed when she was 8-9 months old. I took some better photos of mine just now for you. This is my almost 7 week old pullet. Still just hatchery quality, but very obviously a Barnevelder. The patterning started coming in right away. They are definitely hatchery quality. I got them from a local farm store but I think they source chicks from ideal poultry. I got them for my broody mama (I don’t have a rooster) and they were some of the only chicks I could find at the time so I’m not too bothered. But I have always thought barnevelders were beautiful so I hope they end up looking somewhat like them. The double lacing is gorgeous.
I'm positive she's a Barnevelder, just that hatcheries don't breed to standard. Just like my Cream Legbar from a hatchery that I feel is nothing near what a Cream Legbar should look like, but she was sold as a Cream Legbar and people recognize birds similar to her as a hatchery's version of a Cream Legbar. This really doesn't look like a barnevelder to me either, not even a hatchery quality one. I totally get what you're saying, I just don't think she's a hatchery barnevelder either. I fully understand the difference in quality and that hatcheries are mass producing. I have many poor hatchery quality birds myself. But Barnevelders have a very unique look, and even the hatchery ones aren't that bad, especially considering they're a rarer breed and not very common yet. What hatchery is it from? I'm wondering if there was a mix up. She doesn't have any lacing at all, let alone double lacing. @Amer what do you think?I'm positive she's a Barnevelder, just that hatcheries don't breed to standard. I attached some updated photos of my 2. I feel like the darker one could be close to the right patterning. But the lighter one does seem pretty “off” to me. The lighter one also has a larger comb and wattles starting to poke through. Still not convinced it’s not a little cockerel.
