Barns And Noble - Ick!

I have gone to the book store a few times when the kids needed a specific book.College text books-now those are a rip off!

If I need a book I will pay extra to get it that day.If I have time I might order it online, but you might not get what you pay for(or not get it at all!). I like the tax savings, and the often free shipping.

My favorite place for books is the thirft store. Can't beat 25 cents unless ofcourse it is free stuff on craigs!

I also adore our free state library interloan program where I can order books, movies, and video games from any participating library. They ship my order to the library of my choice. I think I have 30+ movies and books on order! Just gotta watch the return dates, because at a dollar a day those movies can cost you if you return them late.

Will totally check out these other online sites for books__thanks! For me personally, no need to drive out of my way somewhere to a store that charges more than what it will cost me to have something shipped directly to my house...

Because the authors need to make money to continue to produce more books. It's their job. People buying books is how they get paid and the majority are not paid well. If they can't make money writing, they'll need to seek other employment and you will have nothing new to read. The day is coming when there will be no more mass produced books rather everything new will be available through downloads only. No production costs, no storage costs, few customer services related expenses. It's really sad.

Last I looked into it, it was $25 to buy the discount membership card, which gave you a 10% discount on your purchases, so you'd have to spend $250 per year at B&N just to break even! So not worth it for me. I don't spend anywhere near that on new books.

I'm too cheap to pay full price for books in any bookstore. I usually use the library for my book fix. When I buy them, I buy all my books from used book stores, library sales and www.paperbackswap.com. A bookstore like Borders or B&N is my last resort when I want a book.

I have the Barnes and Noble membership and have had it pay for itself in buying just ONE book! It's not just 10% that you get off, you also get free shipping on online orders (saves at least $4 per order right there). I just renewed my membership, bought one book that was hardcover retail for 29.99 and only paid $3.98 for it, plus the free shipping on top of that.

Yes things cost more in the store because they have to pay for the building, heating and cooling, electricity, payroll, etc. Unless I need something right then while I am at the store, I order all my books online. I have found great deal on hardbacks that are just about to go to paperback in the store, that I can't get online, though.

For me, the $25 a year is worth it. Now, if only I could talk my hubby into getting me the Nook Color I want...

My mother has a kindle, and the problem i find is that you havee to be looking for a specific book. I love walking around Borders until something catches my eye. Also, illustrations and photographs just dont look as nice on the kindle, or you dont have them at all on the older version. Just my 2 cents.

There used to be a B&N near me and it was a lot closer than Books-A-Million. I went in there looking for a specific book and I couldn't find it, so I asked if I could order it. They got an attitude with me over it. I waited around until that person wasn't working and went back to the desk to see if I could order it. I got the same attitude. I waited a long time before I went back and only then because they were going out of business. The people at BAM have never given me an attitude when I needed to order a book.

I think B&N doesn't like to hire people that are nice.

I love book stores because I can sit down and read a bit of what ever I'm thinking about buying.

We sometimes go to Barnes & Noble or Borders for date night… seriously. Dinner and B&N. Or dinner & Borders. But now Borders is not an option, and there's not a Books A Million here (they're down south, I think--we used to go there a lot when we lived in Baton Rouge).

I think there will always be people who have an appreciation for a good, old-fashioned, printed book they can hold in their hands. I don't think it's going to go ALL downloads, but I think a lot of people will someday get the majority of their reading material that way. Still, even though I do order a lot online, I do enjoy perusing a good bookstore, the smell and feel of the books--even more so than a library. Let us hope they don't ALL go the way of Borders.
