Barns

Ooo i am gonna like this thread! I love old Barns. I want to find a nice old farm house with lots of old barns!

Plans? What are those?? LOL! My DH and a couple of buddies just made up the plans as they went. I was very nervous about that, but it came out really nice.

Yeah, the barn is just for chickens/turkeys/geese and storing feed. We also have a pig pen across from the barn.

That's pretty much the way I build things, not necessarily from plans, but I do use a reference book on framing details. Most DIY, plan as you go structures don't have gambrel roofs so I was curious if you had used a specific plan.

What do you have for the hogs?

Here is the poultry barn and its feed silo that sits behind the dairy barn I posted above.

Mac - My DH is handy like that. That's why I keep him around. LOL!!! Just kiddin'

I guess he had the plans in his head, just never put anything down on paper. I just tell him what I want and he builds it.

We don't have anything elaborate for the pigs. We're just really getting started with that right now. We have plans for more pigs and more pens, though. The shelter is really simple.

Mac - love the setup!! My DH would be so jealous!! We just have a few acres of land (around 12), and it's in a neighborhood, so we're limited. But, we'd both like a huge place in the country for many, many more animals.

Actually we purchased that place in Wisconsin this past summer and it's only five acres of what you see. The fellow we bought it from kept the surrounding cropland and woods although we are planning on possibly purchasing the rest in the future, an additional 29 acres.

We have the place leased back to him until I can retire from the Air Force this coming summer and move up there. I just sit around looking at the pictures, daydreaming...
