Barns

Wow, I love these barn pictures! We have plans to build in the spring, so I can post pictures then. I hope this thread is still running.

All the barns are beautiful! But I'm kind of dissappointed that there are so few... maybe this was posted in the wrong section

Okay here comes mine. I was going to skip this thread but since you're disappointed in the lack of barns I will indulge you lol

My farm itself was built in 1727.

This section of the barn was an addition put on in 1953.

Connected to this section, which is original to the house, 1727.

I have a lovely collection of barns, which I keep scattered all across the countryside. Perhaps you've seen it?

(joke stolen from Steven Wright's comments on his seashell collection, scattered on beaches all over the world)

I love all these barns, but I live in town, with a two car garage with no cars in it (one half= gardening equip, bikes, skates, one half=tools and table saws and wood and such) - and a simple 8x10 coop.

I'll keep looking here, though, for vicarious pleasure.

My barn needs a LOT of work. Starting with a new door, new siding, some new posts inside, foundation masonry repairs, new windows, new ventilation gable ends...And yeah, this pic is selectively cropped so you can't see the ridiculous mess of gardening tools, mini-tractor, dis-assembled power tools, random bits of lumber etc. inside.

I keep the ex-milking parlor fairly clean and put the dogs and sick birdies in there as needed. Note, old milking stanchions work pretty well for dog grooming.

The barn was originally built in the mid 1800s, to house a vehicle of some sort (carriage, later a tractor), six cows and a bunch of sheep. The previous owner kept his horse and the occasional sick cow in there. I used to have my chickens in there, but moved them out to a new coop some months ago. It's mostly storage space at the moment, but in a few years as money becomes available, we're going to fix the foundation and renovate it into additional living space/guest quarters and art studio space. My project for next year is to install siding, build new windows and vents, re-glaze existing windows, paint and build doors.

I love this thread. I have barn envy. We just have a small one, not even big enough to keep a horse in, but it does work well for storage and raising cornish babies and next springs chicks.

This is before we painted it.

My barn was built in the 1930's, or around there. Absolutley love it! It has enough room for the horses and everyone else to be comfy.

This is the other night, we caught the sunset, so peaceful. We painted it red. Sorry for the blurryness.

Here's our barns.....They are all in desperate need of paint.

The mid section of this one is from the 1880's..the lean tos were added later.

This grainery we used to store wheat in until about 15 years ago. It was built in the 1880s.

chicken stalker ;p :

I love my barn! It was built between 1840 and 1860 (we think).

Yes I know the horse shoe is upside down...but it has always brought us luck that way...I'm afraid to change it.

It must be shedding all the BAD luck then! There's a way to explain ANYthing that works!!
