So we had our first hatch 10 days ago and they were gold laced Cochin x dark Brahma bantam. Pretty sure both were roosters šŸ˜

under another broody I have 3 eggs left- I assumed they were black sex link and dark brahma mixes but one hatched today and it turned out to be a mix of my red sex link(who was broody when I gathered these eggs or so I thought!) and the bark Brahma. So now Iā€™m curious what our next 3 will be.
Not sure of their exact dates since we were out of town and returned to broody hens but should be soon when I candled them, they seemed awful close!

our hens:
Red sex link (5 years)
Black sex link (5 years)
Gold laced Cochin bantam. (9 months)

our roosters (both bantams):
Dark Brahma (9 months old)
Silver duckwing OEGB (4 years)

Todayā€™s surprise hatchling:
Red sex link x dark Brahma cross

11 days ago we had what we think were:
Gold laced Cochin (definitely hers) x dark Brahma? Or oegb. Not sure

stay tuned to see what mixes we get tomorrow -mondayish

Hereā€™s our Cochin mixes at 9 days old, being raised by the red sex link

I think both are roosters šŸ˜

Usually the roosters feather in much slower than hens do. The feathers arenā€™t real round but ā€œsharperā€, The lack of pin feathers on the tail yet (11 days, these were from 9 days). Am I wrong? Usually in my experience the roosters have had pointier feathers, hens have feathered in faster as well as had more rounded wings

That only works for a cross specifically bred for it.

I have 3 hatch dates and one broody hen! Will the hen raise them all? I have 3 chicks now, next hatch date is in 4 days and sheā€™s sitting on eggs that will hatch in 5-6 days. I live in Florida nights in 60ā€™s days 80ā€™s.

I am planning on indoor brooding pen. I think Iā€™ll have a total of no more than12.
