This is fascinating. Gives me something else to research. And here I thought I was all cool and chicken breeder-y by playing around with the chicken calculator!

David, I don't know where you got that information but none of my Barnevelders, nor anyone elses I know, have ever looked like that. The single or double lacing that comes in, comes in looking like lacing. Never have I seen a barred pattern turn into lacing.
Additionally, the bird does not look like a Barnevelder. The whole body and tail confirmation looks off-type for a Barnevelder.
The bird in question looks to have a lot more Partridge Rock in it that anything else.
Zoomia, it would be helpful if you could tell us where you got the Barnie eggs from.
I was hoping you'd weigh in--you sent me a lovely long e-mail a while ago, and I never responded. For which I am ashamed ...
Really, she looks off for a Barnevelder in terms of body type? I've seen a lot of pix of pullets and many look different. I'm definitely far from being an expert tho. I've actually gotten quite fond of her stubby round little body. She's very cute, especially when she goes careening about.
I feel a little odd telling you online where I got the eggs, so I'm going to e-mail you directly. I will say that I e-mailed the guy yesterday and haven't heard anything back. There could be lots of reasons for that though. And it's only been a day....
I just came on for a second to check a couple of things. Was hoping somebody might want some guinea keets or chicks. I've got keets, chicks, ducks, and kittens hopefully going soon.
Thanks for sending me the private email as to where you got the eggs. I wasn't thinking when I asked that question. My quess was that you would come back and say a hatchery.
Sadly, I got this from a breeder. The whole thing has been a little disheartening: Out of a dozen eggs, three or four weren't fertilized and only one hatched. And now it's sounding like I don't have a real Barnevelder. I won't even tell you how much I spent for the eggs.
Oh well, I still think she's gorgeous, and she has tons of personality.
So jqs, do you like yours? Is she at least a decent layer?
Is there Barnevelder breed club in USA? The breed clubs are usually good places to learn & you would have a good chance of finding someone who will sell you quality stock.
