These are two weeks old. I have suspicions that one of my barred rock pullets is a roo. This little chick has the attitude. Pecked my cat in the face, chases my toddler, roots and tries to fly. They are only two weeks.

Here are a few pics;

Next to each other in the brooder. The one on the right.

Without the red light. The one on the left.

Anyone want to guess?

Well, my barred rock pullet was my most assertive and outgoing chick, so just his/her antics wouldn't necessarily spell cockerel to me. However, in that last pic, it DOES look as if the chick's comb is turning slightly pink, while the others still looks plain yellow. If that's the case, then I'd put money on roo/cockerel.

I am going against the grain. The chick has dark plumage, dark wash on the feet, the comb may be slightly pink, but I'm still saying girl. I had a fiesty one too, and she still is fiesty. And has a huge comb and wattles that started to turn pink at 3 weeks old. She lays nice eggs almost every day. but she had me fooled and worried till she was 17 weeks or so.

She is so funny. I had them in a box when I was cleaning the brooder and my scaredy barn cat was sniffing around. She peeked over and jumped back. Well, sassy chick saw her, got right up to the edge and waited. When kitty peeked again, that little chick jumped a mile and pecked her in the face! Poor cat, she still hides.
My two year old likes to sing to the chicks and dance. And run around them. That one always chases him, tries to fly. Of course, he thinks it is hilarious.
