Good morning
We have two 10 week old BRs. They are nearly identical as far as feather's barring pattern and growth pattern. The one on the right, with black-washed, slate-colored legs developed red comb/wattles early. Though from a straight run, she passed the "wing test" as a chick, so we feel fairly certain she's a hen. She isn't a great forager, and she plops down a lot (I mean, I'm not casting stones- hahaha). She's quite the bossy one, (top of pecking order?) and much to our neighbor's chagrin, I'm sure, she lets out a few half-crows at 6:15 am. 🤦🏼‍♀️

[To contrast, the one on the left with black-washed, bright yellow legs, is just now starting to develop her comb/wattles, is sweet and quiet, and is a great forager.]

We have researched and researched and I have read that BR roos genetically have a lighter (gray/white vs black/gray) color pattern. But we also read that BRs only have yellow legs, so we are really confused.
To make matters even more confusing, I just read that Cuckoo Marans have a similar feather pattern w/ slate legs.

(After all that) My questions are:
•Was TSC correct in labeling them Barred Rocks?
•Can BRs have slate legs? Or only yellow?
•Do I have two hens?

Feather sexing only works for chicks that are specifically bred for that trait, by using a fast feathering male over a slow feathering female. You have 2 cockerels.

:(
We had read that the black wash on the fronts of the legs and darker (genetic) coloring were specific to hens. Looks like I need to find someone who needs roos.
