Where-ever there are aniamls :)
I've thought of quitting my job and starting a dog food business lately, but it's just recently that I decided to look more into it. I'm trying to put my dog on raw, and have heard some great things about it, so I know that I want to make raw dog food. I want chickens that I raise to be a number one source of meat for the business, and of course I will add in the other things. Please do not respond with negative comments. I am just looking for a little bit of help on the chickens subject. I wanted chickens that are dual-purpose, because I want good meat, and I might need the bribe of fresh eggs to convince neighbors that chickens will be a good thing. I heard that Barred Plymouth Rocks are good dual purpose chickens. Can anyone prove or disprove this fact? At what age should you cull them?

Barred Rocks are a great dual purpose breed but lay fewer eggs than other breeds. If you're looking for production to start into a dog food business, look at broilers and 7 weeks each batch. I'd say to start by keeping your current job and start the dog food business on the side until it picks up to make sure everythings secure so there's no risk since the food industry is a stakes business. Your crops or chickens could fail, you never know so the back up plan is great.

Okay! Yeah, my plan was more like start the business and maybe quit my job, not quit my job and start the business. I hope I understood correctly- you should process the Barred Plymouth Rock at 7 weeks?

Actually the Cornish are ready about after 7 weeks. Barred Rocks are a heritage breed and mature slower so about 18 weeks for them.
