So i recently went and bought the last 3 barred plymouth chicks at my local TCS. One unfortunately passed but the other two are looking good. But.. they are both supposed to be pullets so im confused why one is grayish and one is blackish. One looks older, and has a distinct comb and acts more alert. Both are very friendly and tame. Im just curious if they both are really pullets! Any advise would be great!

None of those chicks are Barred Rocks.

The blue one is either a Sapphire Gem, Blue Copper Marans, Blue Austrolorp, or Blue Andalusian.

The black one is either a Black Austrolorp, Jersey Giant, or Black Copper Marans.

As for the gender, post pics of their combs at 6 weeks.
X2. Although, it's probably unlikely the black chick is a Black Copper Marans. Those legs seem a bit too dark, and I'm not spotting any pink. :)

Please update us soon for gender. :love

Don't think the black one is a Black Australorp or BJG since there is copper/gold coming in on the wing feathers, but does have the black legs. I've ever had any Marans, so no opinion on that breed.

@Chickmom00, find out where the chicks came from (hatchery). Then peruse the hatchery website - they will have pics of the chicks they sell, and you can try to narrow down the options or figure it out. Last year, I bought 7 random chicks from the "extras" bin at Meyer hatchery. A puzzle to figure out a few of those chicks, but Meyer has a chick ID tool online, which helped.

I had not noticed the copper coming in. It's probably a Black Copper Maran or a Black Sex Link.
