After researching the Calico Princess layers, they say the parent stock is a Sussex hen and a barred RIR rooster. I’ve never heard of a Barred RIR before. Are they a hybrid or something? Kind of curious how they gain the barred pattern without black color? Thanks.

By definition if it is barred it isn't a RIR. The calico princess isn't a breed just a marketing name for that type of hybrid sex link.
If you're getting your info from Hoover's its a waste of time. They are clueless.
I'd imagine when they say barred RIR they are just giving a description for a barred RIR type of bird.
Its actually not much different then a rhodebar.
The barring is just a pattern gene it can be bred onto many colors/patterns. Yes it would take a couple generations to lose the extended black and get back to a different barred color/pattern.

That is what a rhodebar is basically. A barred RIR.
Barring was put on a RIR type bird to make it autosexing.
Easy to search Google or this forum to find info about them.

Yes they can be recreated. What feedback you get will vary greatly depending on your question. Are you wanting to know how to breed those? The barred RIR?

I'd like to hear your ideas about recreating them.
I've done it myself but always wanting to hear from others to see if they're process would be different then my own.
