I purchased these barres rock 5 1/2 weeks ago. Told they have a 95% chance to be a hen. We’ll fast forward these two barred rocks are completely different from each other, in size, color and personality. Any opinions are appreciated. Thanks in advance

They both look like pullets to me, but I'd keep an eye on the lighter colored one. The head spot is pretty diffuse and it is a lighter colored bird, but comb and leg wash look pullety.

re: Jed's comment. If they've got yellow legs they're BRs; if the legs look more pink, they're likely cuckoo marans.

I would guess the whiter one to be a cockeral. In pure breed barred rock the hens are single barred and the roosters double bared making them appear whiter. There is a chance that the darker one is just extra dark and the whiter one is single barred, as the bars do not seem very crisp.

That one could be a cockeral. Can you update when they are 8 weeks.

Agree, pretty sure these are 2 different breeds. The hallmark of a barred rock is the bars, the bands, which the darker chick does not have. It's either a cucco maran or dominique.
When a bird is not up to a breed standard it does not make it another similar looking breed. Occasionally someone gets a bird without knowing what it is, but more often it is a mix of the breed that was expected or just a line that has not been bred to the standard.
