Barred rock chick.

Really?!!! I got the eggs from a hatchery and they egg was even labeled Rhode Island Red which is what i ordered
Curious what hatchery you got them from or at least what type of hatchery?
Was it a well known one or a hole in the wall one?
Did the BR come from the same place?
The difference in pattern doesn't indicate sex.
As others have said it indicates something is wrong. The specks are mottling and doesn't belong on a RIR. It is the right pattern for a SS but agree wrong leg color.
The BR really looked off for a BR IMO.
I'm wondering if those two are/were mixes or something.
Sorry about the BR.

Thank you. I got them from Meyer Hatchery i think it’s pretty well known. Now I’m curious about my other eggs i got and hatched. I have 2 that are Easter Eggers but one looks completely different.

Thank you my 3 year old accidentally tripped and fell on him. He was devastated

Oh No! Well, kids are kids. My far-from-three-year-old tween child has had a few mishaps with the chicks...so far, they have survived - actually just fine, but have been the inspiration for such conversations as: "this is why you don't hold the chicks over the concrete floor while standing, in case they fall..." and "gently, handle them gently" .... And then today, I nearly squashed the barn cat's tail today, but realized it because I happened to look down, and as a result my legs are not all scratched up (whew!) and cat is fine. accidents happen.
