The barred rock is a boy. That head spotting pattern and wing barring looks indicative of double bar gene

Hmm doesn't look quite like a Sussex to me. No eyelines and wrong leg color. Pattern is kind of similar thoughOne of those is not a rir, could be a speckled Sussex?
Thank you much! I was confused because we have had a Rhode Island Red before but she was solid. I didn’t know if it meant it was a roo.Rhode Island reds should not show that white leakage, you will have to wait and see what she grows up to be
Possible cockerel on the BR, but I would give it a bit more time. That barring is pretty distinct and wide and light.
Unfortunately the barred rock passed.but I’m pretty sure it was a rooster
Curious what hatchery you got them from or at least what type of hatchery?Really?!!! I got the eggs from a hatchery and they egg was even labeled Rhode Island Red which is what i ordered
Sorry about that! Good Luck with your next batch of chicks!
Curious what hatchery you got them from or at least what type of hatchery?
Was it a well known one or a hole in the wall one?
Did the BR come from the same place?
The difference in pattern doesn't indicate sex.
As others have said it indicates something is wrong. The specks are mottling and doesn't belong on a RIR. It is the right pattern for a SS but agree wrong leg color.
The BR really looked off for a BR IMO.
I'm wondering if those two are/were mixes or something.
Sorry about the BR.
Thank you my 3 year old accidentally tripped and fell on him. He was devastated
