Alright. So I just bought 6 Barred Rocks and they were not already sexed and I’ve seen many ways to tell them apart but I just don’t want to be wrong. I would like to know for sure if I have hens like I hoped or half of them being Roosters like last year:mad::fl

Whoever helps me out thank you so so much. I love knowing what the genders will be so I can start thinking of names and make sure I’m not cursed with rooster being thrown at me:lol:

Cute chicks I know that when they are fully feathered, the females have more black and males more white

Yeah. The hens stripes are almost reversed the roosters. So where roosters have black hens have white and the other way around. I’m really hoping none of my babies are roosters.:fl

There is a topic area of BYC that is titled "What breed or gender" and you can post there. Mention Barred Rock in the title, and you might get more responses. Also, it may take several weeks till it is obvious as to which are males and females, but someone on the other forum may be able to tell for you.

Oh okay thank you

If they are two days old or less, here is a way to sex them. http://www.fowlvisions.com/sexing-baby-chickens/
I've heard of that method. This is only my opinion but i think is a bit.. harsh? I've also heard that it was false same as the ring on a string where if you hold it in front of a female it should go in circles and a male back and forth? maybe it's the other way around. Guess it wouldn't hurt to try.
