I had a very successful hatch yesterday. 5 outta 6. Their special to me because we lost their parents recently. So I had one rooster he was a barred rock, and the moms are blue cochin (the two grey with feathered legs), easter egger (grey with puffy cheeks), black cooper maran (two black and yellows).
I know with Barred Rocks the white dot on the head usually means roo. Does this run true is the mom is not a barred rock?

Would love to hear the update on this!

All barred rocks have white dots on the head. With certain breeding the more precise dots are females. With many hatchery quality barred rock it is not reliable.
With your crosses the dots are showing which will be barred (single barred). With the rooster being barred both boys and girls can be barred.
As a side note. If a hen is barred and a roo is solid only the male chicks are barred.

I have heard that if the mother is barred and the father is a solid color than a spot on the head indicates male

Certain breeds are easier to sex than others when you have a barred rooster. I have a cream legbar rooster over welsummers and brown leghorns so my chicks should be dark if they're pullets and much lighter if they're cockerels.None of them have gone broody yet.
