That is the weirdest headspot I have ever seen. I think you may have a cockeral there.

Is it possible that the others were older than you were told and thus this one is younger? Is the chick growing in size or staying the same?

I've only had my chicks for 4 days now. The feed store told us they were 5 days old when we bought them. Haven't really noticed much growth in size, the major difference I have seen, as I said, is just the growth of feathers. The RIR chick and the EE chick are fully feathered on their wings now...and they are as long as their little bodies. This one has very stumpy wings yet and just a few tiny feathers on the tips. Do ya think it might be significantly younger than the other 2? ( The EE chick is the biggest, and the RIR and BR are the same size, but smaller than the EE).

Same thing happened with one of my Speckled Sussex--the roo. It was nice to be able to tell early.

I have a little red chick that is over 1 week old that has the same problem. Doesn't appear to be growing, only has those LITTLE tip of feathers and she is the only red one I have. All my other chicks have wing feathers coming in like crazy. I watch her eat and drink, and she is always running around and appears happy. She is probably a he, and will have to change her name from Rose I suppose

If you post a picture, the BR experts here can probably tell you with a high degree of certainty if you have a male. Males look lighter in their down color and their white bars are wider than the females, giving them an overall grayish-black rather than dark black look, though there are rare exceptions.

Any idea if they are Roos or pullets?
