Barred Rock gender

View attachment 1975026
This is my Barred Rock Cockerel at 3 weeks and 6 days old (so almost 4 weeks old). His comb is getting large already. You can also see his legs and the lighter stripes, almost a Grey color (we learned from previous posters that this is not necessarily a determining factor, it is a tip shared with me on BYC when I was new and trying to figure BR's out). I hope this might be helpful to you.
So cute! This is a great picture to compare the difference in color between male and female.

My 2 BR pullets are looking at the camera here. You can see comb development and they're right at 2 weeks old. I hope this might help some. I'm searching for pictures of my BR cockerel but he is in a Bachelor Flock that is a month older than the group pictured. One of the Buff Orpington's ended up being a cockerel, but the other 5 are pullets that are now laying
Wow! That takes me back three years when my Rocks were that tiny, sooo cute!:love

3 weeks and going like a weed!

Your ee's got really cool coloring, though!
I'm convinced Meyer throws in boys on purpose; they seem to have much more than a 10% error rate.
Fingers crossed I've at least got some girls in the bunch!

I don’t think the sex of the meal maker is guaranteed though they do try to give you similar gender and breeds.

I have ordered from Meyer’s three times now, 2 chick orders and a hatching egg order, and had great experiences every time. Though I know it varies. But all mine were healthy, active, and the correct gender and breeds.

Of the chick orders, all were girls and I have gotten a lot of chicks. 9 the first time and 5 in April. I did lose one chick in the first order (my fault not Meyers) so can’t be sure if it would have been a girl or not but I’m sure it would have been. Every other chick has been including the free chick. I didn’t add the meal maker to my second order and they didn’t include it but my first order I did and they included an extra of one of the breeds I had ordered and it was a female. So I lucked out I guess.

I don’t think they purposely try to include males or screw people or anything. In fact, that’s one of the things I like about Meyer. They have a small minimum order and don’t include males as packing peanuts like most other hatcheries. They try to sell them all with deals like the fry pan bargain and the adopt me pack and stuff.

It was probably just a mistake and they will refund you. Their guarantee is 100% now.

Meyer only refunds the difference between a pullet and cockeral, so if the pullet is 4 and the cockeral is three, you get a buck and they only guarentee 90% accuracy. You were given false information.

That’s not true anymore. They changed the policy last year.

I want to try My Pet Chicken. Heard great things and they do have a 100% gender quarantine. Doesn't mean they don't make mistakes, but that they try and they refund the full price when you don't get what you ordered. Problem, though, 7 bird minimum order.

Meyer does this too now.

Oh, F! I see wattles starting. 17 days old, so much for hoping he's a pullet. Hopefully, I'm wrong about that ee, but it's looking like my pullet order is at least 50% roo. This combined with getting the meyer meal maker, which I didn't want(and really can't handle the extra bird right now, especially a roo) and getting a black copper marans instead of the golden cockoo maran that I ordered has me extremely perturbed with Meyer right now. The last batch I got from them arrived very lethargic and I lost 4 out of 14. This is a TERRIBLE track record.

Sorry you’ve had such a bad experience. :(

I have had nothing but great experiences with them but of course everyone has different experiences.

Are you sure didn’t accidentally check the substitutions are okay box? They may have been out of that breed and substituted with a similar one if you hit that box.

Oh and for the record, my BR had huge comb and wattles pretty early on and was even standing up tall at 2 weeks old and thought for sure she was a rooster but she ended up being a hen. So there’s still hope. She unfortunately passed away in July, not sure why, but she was almost 4 years old and was a great bird. Great egg layer and very pretty. She did have a massive comb and wattles though. :lau

here are photos of my last crew. They are from ideal, but will help you compare coloring and combs. 3 1/2 weeks old in these pictures.

Yours looks lighter in color in the first pictures. In the last couple it looks like a similar color to mine.

I think he may look darker because he has new feathers coming in and they start out black. We will see. Wattles are rather pink, but haven't grown too much in the last couple of days. Tail seems pretty long too. A bit of a bully. Very thick legs. IDK. I'll be extatic if I'm wrong! My guy's feathers look so much sloppier than yours.
I could have sworn, when I ordered, it still said the same sexing guarantee as before. Maybe I dreamt it.
Am I just the lucky one who gets boys in all my orders? I do love roos, but I "can't " have them here.

I did get a boy with mine also, but at three weeks I was worried half were boys lol! My gold laced Wyandotte had red wattles and comb at three weeks. I was very worried. Fingers crossed for you!
