My Barred Rock hen crows for an hour or two EVERY. SINGLE. MORNING. It is driving me insane. She just stands there and crows. She has water, food, meal worms, scratch. She's healthy, as far as I can tell. I talk to her, she gets attention. I have no idea what is going on. She will crow to the point of losing her voice, and then keeps crowing even though no sound is coming out. Why does she do this?

She's a second hand chicken, we got her and her coop-mate from a neighbor less than a year ago. My neighbor cannot remember exactly how old she is, but he estimates nearly 4 years old. She does not lay much anymore. I live in a suburban neighborhood and we only have the 2 chickens right now.

Yeah, she's a hen. She lays and she's nearly 4 years old. What would cause high testosterone in a hen?

Hens sometimes crow.
Not necessarily because of 'high' testosterone,
more likely because of lower female hormones as they age or are out of lay.
Happens more often when there is no cock/erel present, but again not necessarily.

Is she laying right now?
Is it this same bird?
