Barred rock hen or rooster

No I never got chance unfortunately. I think he's going to be a big rooster as he's seems to have shot up this week!!

Too bad, you might have been able to see what he would like as an adult and what his personality might have been like. Because most roosters take after their fathers, hopefully his father isn't an aggressive rooster.

He seems to be a bit of a whimp at the minute and really calm I hope that doesn't change!! Are Barred rock rosters know for bring aggressive or is it just a case of good and bad in every breed??

Good and bad in every breed. And how they are raised, and it's probably about 50/50 when it comes to genetics and enviorment.

Barred Rock Roosters are a little more ballsy than other roosters, but it is all about showing that you are alpha roo from the get go. Don't hold the boy. He should be wary of humans. No eating out of your hand. I know it can be hard, but try to establish yourself as boss.

I have 3 barred rock roosters. All 3 are really respectful. One will bite if you handle him. I learned that when I went to give him a bath before a show. I did not hold it against him.. None of them ever tried to come at me or display at me.

If he is going to get aggressive, you'll see the worst of it (in most cases) between 4-10 months old. At 12 months if he hasn't started acting out, I would relax.

Have you seen in your lines that the sons of the roosters will take after their fathers or grandfathers in aggresssiveness towards hens and humans more so that even training them from the get go can't be over come ?

I couldn't say. I eat all bad roosters

The worse they are, the better they taste. The only ones I've ever had to send to the freezer for behaviour were the Naked Neck Turken crosses. They were aggressive with other roosters and hens and the ducks. They didn't go after me, but their behaviour to the other birds was enough to send 'em packing.
