Relatively new to chickens and we bought 12 Isa Browns and we have 6 Rhode Island reds. We went without a rooster for a while but was just given a rooster who is a Dominicker. Wondering if anyone has any pictures of what that offspring would look like? I've tried to Google and not much out there.

I crossed a Barred rock roo with an isa brown hen and got 2 black chicks with yellow dots on their heads, much like barred rock chicks have. Then one solid white, and one white with a few black specks. Hope this helps.

@Smm87 - any chance you grew those chicks out and could tell which were male and female? I just did a big hatch of this cross and am wondering if they actually ended up being sex-linked or if it was random. To me, the yellow ones looked male, very chunky legs. But I have no idea if the barred ones were a mixed bag or not.

It depends on which was the mother.

If the father was the barred rock all the offspring will be barred.

If the mother was the barred rock the males will be barred and the females won’t. They would be sexlinked.

I hate it when people say ”Dominikers”.
They aren’t a thing.
Dominiques are.
It’s like saying a white leghorn is a “Whit Leggylorn” or something and saying it’s a different breed.

Oh believe me, I know how the black sexlinks work :) I've done them on purpose.

And yes, since the rooster was barred and the hens were the ISA Browns, they *should* have all been barred, but they were NOT. So I'm wondering if maybe that specific cross does happen to produce a sexlink of sorts, even though it's not a recognized one.

I ended up with 10 chicks that were yellow with black polka dots and 21 barred chicks. I'm just really curious and don't want to wait to know if there's a chance someone else has done it too.

Interesting. Are you sure your rooster was pure barred rock? It sounds like he only had one barring gene.

Positive. I bred him myself from birds I also bred myself and they're SOP lines, not hatchery. My original source is a very well-respected individual in the breed :)
Well that’s really interesting. If you made your own thread on this I’m sure people can help identify different possibilities. I’m still learning chicken genetics so this is about as far as I can help. :D

I got excited because the poster I tagged got the exact same thing I did, lol. I'm considering a fresh post if I don't find anybody else that has grown these out.

I have a friend that just wanted an early batch of chicks for spring layers and cockerels for the freezer, so I told her I'd just set everything I had. I have three of the ISA's because I had a lone chick hatch last fall and bought friends, so was interested to see what the cross would be like.
