Hi guys! Can someone please give me a rough idea as to when we might see some eggs out of my girls??? I have 5 barred rocks that just celebrated their 4-month birthday last week. Someone told me that it was around 20 weeks and onther person told my husband that it was more like 8 months! I hope that it's sooner rather than later!
I appreciate your advice!

Usually at 6 months they lay gorgeous brown eggs. They are good layers in the winter here too in the South and make excellent pets !!!

When I had some they layed at about 24 weeks. do you have a light on them? If not they will need one soon.

My Barred Rocks and my Rhode Island Reds all began laying at the same time last year, at Thanksgiving. The Reds were 6 months old and the Rocks were 7..they laid double yolkers and small eggs for weeks and then settled into laying the big fat brown eggs daily until the heat got so bad and now they lay NEARLY every day. Go ahead and give them layer mash now if you aren't already and some oyster shell. Good luck!

At 4 months of age they are fully feathered, and don't need any artificial light.

My experience is that barred rocks start to lay at 21-24 weeks and will lay right through winter.
