Another good thing about them is they don't tend to go as broody as a buff, so your egg production won't be slowed down.

Barred Rocks have always been one of my favorites. They are the all around best chicken in my opinion

They are friendly and curious but also smart enough know when danger is around. The BR's I have had are normally the top hens in the flock, but don't rule with an iron fist. They also lay nice brown eggs.

My barred Rock rooster is great. My 18 month old son can go up and even pet him. He just stands there. He is my favorite.

I have to add my 2 cents on the BRs. Henny Penny is my only BR, but she is smarter and more curious than all my BOs put together. She just has a smarter, more aware look in her eyes. She is the queen on the coop, too. The eggs are beautiful, too, and she has only gone broody once. One of my BOs is either broody nonstop, or she's just a b#tch! Next year I plan to have a whole flock of these beautiful birds.

OK, update on our BR... she just laid her first egg today, at age 22.5 weeks!!! Yay, we LOVE her!!!

I love my Barred-Rock hens. They have chicken appeal inside and out. I have four and they are the life of the party in my flock of twelve. Their large tight barred necks set off their stellar bright red combs and make them the most prominent sight in my coop.
