Here’s a 10 week old female BR. See her small comb and dark pattern? Ignore the weirdo feathers on the back of her head, she’s had a bad injury.

There’s definitely some variety in how the boys develop. I’m just sure this is a male though.
I hate being the deliverer of bad news.

Interesting. Well, the better quality a male is, the thinner his black lines on the barring are.
So the more developed boy may just have better barring.
The reason females appear darker is, the males for pure barred breeds carry two barring genes. They pass one to their sons, and one to their daughters. But the momma hen, she only has one copy, so she appears darker. She passes that copy to her son. So all the male offspring have two, and the females have one, and so on.( It’s impossible for a female to have two copies, but it is possible for a male to have one.)
Your male still is lighter than a female would be, because he and his brother have two.

Good luck with him. He’s a cute little dude.
they are very handsome but I am in big trouble! LOL.i have 3 roosters and one hen .I have one leghorn hen and also a leghorn rooster. Oh my goodness, lol.
