Barred rock, roo or hen? UPDATE!!

I'll bet my house cat & my cowboy hat the first one's a pullet.

Hey, NYReds, what size hat you wear, buddy?

Did you want him to be a he? I love my BR roosters. They are all three very sweet tempered, just like their daddy, may he rest in peace. I've been fooled a few times by BRs that didnt follow the sexing rules, but only once by a girl I thought was a boy. It's usually the slow maturing cockerels who dont look quite as light as the others that make me think for a brief time that they're pullets. Zane was one of them, actually-sort of an in-between coloring, etc.

Congrats on the rooster. Nice looking young man. I am hoping for one too.

Well, I just happened to have some cockerels who did not display any saddle feathers till about the age of the one in the first pic or a bit after. They were there, under the top feathers, but you wouldn't have seen them in a picture from that angle. At that age, BR pullets rarely have combs like that, though.
