Barred Rock Roo?

My second attempt at getting a BR hen…. But why do I suspect another Roo? I thought BRs are easy to sex at hatch?? (New to this chicken mom thing….this is my second brood)…

Legs are darker than my last…. But she/he seems to have the crisp bars & that comb already?

Most likely a cockerel.

Barred Rocks are only easy to sex at hatch if they are bred specifically for that trait. Even then, you're only looking at 80% accuracy.

I agree that's a cockerel.. what cruddy luck!

Sexing is not 100% accurate unless autosecing or sex linked.. and even then mixups in labeling have occured. Most places will refund your purchase price but you still have deal with the bird.

Well….at least I’m getting practice at identifying BR Roos!! Lol!! I’ll get my BR hen one day!! But having a small backyard flock means it’ll have to wait a while though ..
