I'm breeding second generation mixes, my roo is actually more than that, his sire was a mixed breed with maybe some Orpington in him, his momma was a hatchery barred rock. I have unrelated hens that are easter egger/brown leghorn mixes. I've hatched out some babies from that mix and the pullets just started laying (hatched out late last summer) and I'm getting nice dark green/khaki eggs. The ee/leghorn cross had been one of my favorite so far, laying better than anything else I've had for both size and quantity. I'll probably hatch out the second generation pullet's eggs from mating back to her sire and see how those go. I'll probably be looking for a new roo in the next year or so, I'd love to keep one of Rocky's non-barred male offspring. We'll see how it goes!
