Has anyone tried this cross and if so, what did the chicks look like,
were they auto-sexing and what did they grow out to look like?

Were the eggs of the pullets like a Welsummer egg or more like the
egg of a BR? Temperament of the birds?

Pictures of chicks and adult birds from this cross would be very much appreciated as well.

Thanks

A Barred Rooster (barred rock, dominique etc) over most any hen will give you offspring that is Black as chicks and "Barred" cuckoo as adults.

thats correct, some ground color leakage may or may not appear, I think they could also be auto sexed right? boys have larger more defined head spots

They could be but I believe that it would be a little harder to tell than on a barred rock.

if you was to swap it over ans use a welsummer cock with a bared rock female you would get a autosexing Welbar
First Generation Welsummer/ Barred Rock cross would be just a Sex-link and not a Welbar.
To get a Welbar it would take a few more breedings.
Heres a chart I found sometime ago on breeding a Legbar which should be about the same to create a Welbar just replace the Leghorn with a Welsummer.

why? does Heterozygous sex link Barring chicks resemble Hemizygous ones?
I don't know, but every cross that I used a Barred Rock Male over a Non-Barred Female was really hard to sex by head spot so I gave up on trying to sexing them.

Yep I have a beautiful black barred female with bright yellow beak and legs an bay /amber eyes. Nice bright, active hen that lays a dark brown to pink matt coloured egg. Lovely bird. All chicks from the cross turn out black and yellow, with white head dot, boys with greater coverage. All chicks will be barred when feathered, but boys will get some breakthrough colouring. Nice temperament though.

Sorry to dig up such an old thread, bit do you have photos of your BR roo /Welsummer hen offspring? I just hatched a chick from this pairing today. It's not 100% dry yet, but I swear that I already see some color breakthrough. I'm excited to see what it's going to look like.
