I have 2 Golden Comets that are laying and 2 Barred Rock that I’ve been waiting to lay any day. I also have 2 Speckled Sussex that I don’t expect to be laying quite yet. I found this little beauty today and didn’t expect to see a Speckled egg. Does anyone have experience with a BR laying Speckled eggs?

My BR has laid the occasional speckled egg! Like 1/10 might have some speckles.

I have a BR that started laying a few weeks ago. Everyone of her eggs have been speckled. I am going to breed her to a Silverudd Blue rooster and hopefully get speckled green egg layers from them.

I have a barred rock that always lays “speckled” eggs. They are just spots of calcium deposits but she’s been doing it since egg one no matter the diet/calcium intake…inside looks great too so I wouldn’t stress if you don’t see problems elsewhere

Perfectly normal. Get 'em all the time. Usually dark speckles. Sometimes light speckles. Rarely a mix of both. They also vary quantity of speckles- none, a few or a lot. They like a variety when they paint their eggs. :)
