Barred Rock vs New Hampshire

I feel like with my luck if I want a broody hen, no one is mother of the year material. But if I don't, everyone will be enamored of sitting on eggs. lol
I totally feel that!!!!!! LOL One of the Buff Orpingtons I had once went broody like 4-5 times in one year 🤣 it was only like spring through summer too so a short period of time. If she went broody one more time I was going to let her hatch but then she got taken by a hawk, sadly. 😭💔 one of my favorite hens. 💔 And then I had my Black Australorps go broody a couple of times. And THEN! My Speckled Sussex randomly went broody one time and I let her hatch chicks since it was my first time having a rooster. Yeah… she was NOT mother of the year… :lau :th 🤦‍♀️ she always lost them or just gave up rearing them. Thankfully, they had a doting “aunt” following them around (one of my older Black Australorp hens) and she eventually took over rearing them after like 2 weeks. :lau and she was actually a little TOO devoted and even the 8+ week old cockerels would be in the nest box with her trying to nestle under her and she let them :lau I ended up getting two cockerels and two pullets from that hatch LOL but yeah. Sorry for rambling. Anyways, totally get your predicament. I think my Buff Orp would have been an AMAZING mother. Much better than my Speckled Sussex for sure. :lau

How do both breeds tend to be regarding broodiness in people's experience?
The ones I had and have go broody at least twice a year (one Amrock just weaned her 12 chicks very peacefully), but my birds are heritage stock and here even 2 of 3 White Leghorns went broody.

With American hatchery birds the outcome may be very different.

Yeah I should note mine were all American hatchery birds except for the barnyard mixes I eventually hatched myself. But the Barred Rocks (and others) were hatchery.
