I have a year old barred rock with a bald head:-( She is acting fine but her head is really red with no feathers, I have heard that you can put black shoe polish on them to help the feathers grow back. Any Advice!!! Thanks I am new to the forum and I love it soo far.
sorry I have never heard of using blk shoe polish on a chicken to make it's feathers grow back. I would be a little concerned about what might be in the polish that could possibly hurt them. So I wouldn't recommend it myself. Do you know why she is bald? is it another bird plucking her feathers? a over affectionate rooster? mites? You might try adding more protein into her diet, BOSS is a good one. also mealworms add extra protein. My lil frizzle thats in my avatar was scalped by a large rooster last year, I used Blue-kote on her to help with the healing and in time it healed and finally all her feathers grew back.
Any idea why>>> Is she getting picked at? Do you have roos that are frisky? You might need to isolate if she is getting picked at. The feathers will grow back. I have a frizzle that now has a bald head. She used to have sparse spiky feathers.. the roos took care of them!!
